Pre-Convention Working Job
September 8th - On the afternoon of Saturday September 8, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. Deptford F.D. (Station 9-2) was dispatched to #24 Yorktown Ct. for a dwelling all hands operating off the initial dispatch.

As Chief R. Thomas (9201) signed on Gloucester County Communications advised him that numerous calls were being received for a fire in a townhouse and all calls reporting smoke and fire from the windows.

The working fire box was completed prior to any units on scene brining in Station 9-3, Utility 947, Fast Teams 9-1 and Camden County 8-2, Deptford ESU squad 995, Westville F.D. EMS squad 739, utilities and covers.

Chief Thomas arrived on scene to report a 3 story middle of the row townhouse with smoke and fire showing from the second story windows extending to the third floor.

Fortunately the hydrant was located about 40 feet from the dwelling so first due engine 923 had a very short lay, the engine went in service with 2 inch and three quarter lines and had the fire knocked down within 10 minutes as tower ladder 926 ventilated the dwelling.

Crews operated on scene with overhaul and ventilation. Crews operated on scene until 7:30 p.m. The fire is under investigation by the Deptford Fire Marshal's Office.

Busy Week for Deptford Firefighters
August 17th - A busy week was in store for Deptford firefighters the week of August 13, 2007. On Wednesday August 15, Deptford F.D. (Engine 9-2) was dispatched to Rt. 295 Southbound in the area of mm 26.5 for a commercial motor vehicle crash with fire. Gloucester and Camden County Communications advised units of a head on MVA with a car vs. tractor trailer. Battalion Chief R. Thomas (9201) arrived on scene to report a head on MVA car vs. tractor trailer with no fire however one patient in the vehicle heavily entrapped. First due Rescue-Engine 921 arrived to stabilize the vehicle, supply a fire suppression line, and go in service with cutters and spreaders. Bellmawr EMS and Virtua ALS tended to the victim. The patient was extricated within 10 minutes and taken to Cooper Trauma Center. Assisting units were Bellmawr FD (Station 3-3), Gloucester City F.D/Hazmat (5), and Camden City F.D. (Rescue Company 1). After extrication crews mitigated a large fuel spill and were on scene operating for approx 5 hours.

On the afternoon of August 16, 2007 Deptford F.D. (Stations 9-3 and 9-2) were dispatched to #146 Betsy Ross Way for a reported dwelling fire. Gloucester County Communications advised all units that multiple calls were being received reporting visible flame and smoke from a garage. Chief S. Hubbs (901) reported smoke showing from 3 blocks away, the chief then arrived on location reporting a 2 1/2 story single family dwelling with heavy fire and smoke showing at division D of an attached garage and requested the all hands be struck. First due Engine 921 was ordered to go in service with a 2 1/2 inch line into the garage. Crews forced entry and made an aggressive knockdown within minutes fortunately saving the entire house with the exception of the garage and a vehicle inside. A few small pets were also rescued from the dwelling. Units assisting on scene were Battalion's 1, 2, 3, 4, Canteen 9, Deptford ESU (squads 993 & 995), Chews Landing F.D. (station 8-2), and multiple cover companies. Crews operated approx 3 hours on the scene with no injuries reported and the fire is under investigation by the Deptford Fire Marshal's Office.

Just after lunch time on Friday August 17, 2007 Deptford F.D. (Engine 9-2), Woolwich F.D. (Engine 25-1), and Westville F.D. (squad 739) were dispatched to the New Jersey Turnpike Southbound around the 23 mile marker for a reported vehicle fire. Chief S. Hubbs (901) arrived on scene to report a jeep cherokee well involved in the high speed shoulder. Engine 921 was first due to go in service with it's front bumper line for extinguishment of the fire. Crews had the fire knocked down in minutes and the assignment was held to Engine 921 and 923. Crews operated on scene with no injuries reported. This was the end of a very interesting week for the crews and personnel.

Short drive for Tacoma Fire Company
July 7th - Shortly after Woodbury's Fireworks Celebration ended, Battalion 2 was dispatched to 749 Tacoma Blvd., situated several houses down from the Tacoma Blvd Station. 9201 (B/C Thomas) arrived to find a 20x20 detached garage with heavy smoke showing. Chief Thomas had County Communications Center fill the box and strike the all hands.

The garage was found to be heavily involved and Engine 923 was ordered to lead off with a 2 1/2" blitz line with the Blitz Fire nozzle. Ladder 926 was ordered to back up Engine 923 with a 1 3/4" line, and Duty Engine 931 was ordered to lay in a 5" supply line. The job was placed under control at the 30 minute mark and is under investigation by the Deptford Fire Department Fire Marshal's office.

Battalion 2 runs a busy Saturday
June 9th - On June 9th, 2007, Battalion 2 members were in for a Saturday that was unexpected. The morning started off with Volunteers participating in a parade and town gathering that was celebrating Oak Valley Day. Engine 923 responded with a driver & 2 for the assignment. Nearing the end of the parade, cover companies were established for West Deptford for a fire that occurred on Dubois Avenue. Tower Ladder 926 responded to cover Verga Fire Co.

After the cover Battalion Two was dispatched for a structure fire at 428 Carson Ave. Upon the arrival Engine 923, FF Fiddler advised communications that this was a working structure fire. Battalion Chief Rick Thomas (9201) arrived and reported a 20x20 detached garage well involved, striking the all hands and bringing stations 9-3, 9-4, Fast Teams 9-1 and Woodbury 5-1, cover companies and the Rehab unit.

The first crews forced entry into the garage through the D Division Door and attempted to make an interior attack, however conditions deteriorated with the structure and were forced outside. Around the 45 minute mark the fire was placed under control and the Deptford Township and Gloucester County Fire Marshal's Office began their investigation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
