Busy Day to End the Weekend
March 11th - Busy day for the members of Battalion Two. At 0739 hours, Engine 9-2 was dispatched to the Most Holy Redeemer School to investigate the alarm system. Upon the arrival of Battalion Chief Rich Thomas, he found that the church representatives were inside the school kitchen cooking breakfast and had burned some of the food, setting off the alarm. The representative had already reset the alarm and evacuated the smoke.

About a 1/2 hour, later Engine 9-2 was dispatched to the intersection of Delsea Drive and Woodland Avenue for a wires call. Upon arrival, crews found a Verizon phone wire pulled from a residence and was hanging low, blocking the street. Crews assisted the Deptford Township Police Department with the road closure of Delsea Drive and awaited the arrival of Verizon to correct the issue.

Later in the afternoon, Engine 9-2 was dispatched to the intersection of Florence and Woodland Avenues for a utility pole on fire. Arriving crews found that a utility pole was burning and that PSE&G would need to respond. Due to the fire being right under the high voltage lines, Battalion Chief Thomas had crews block all access to the area. The Deptford Township Fire Police were also summoned to assist with road closures.

About 0300 hours on Monday morning Engine 9-2 was dispatched to the parking lot of the Shell Gas Station for a report of a fuel spill. Upon arrival of 9201 (Thomas), he found that a the gas station was receiving a delivery of gasoline and that the driver had mistakenly pulled the wrong lever. This caused the gasoline to spill from an unchecked valve. The driver managed to get the valve off but not before 20 gallons of gasoline was now on the ground. Crews blocked the gasoline from entering any storm drain and covered most of the spill with about 150 pounds of oil dry. Deptford Township Office of Emergency Management arrived and made arrangements with the driver and the company for clean up.
