| April 17th - Around 0942hrs, Battalion 2 was dispatched to Cornell Steel, 1151 Broadway, for a reported building fire. District Chief Steven Hubbs (901) reported a column of smoke in the air as he was responding from Fire Administration, and requested County Communications to fill the box. Engine 923 arrived on location first, and Lt. Ed Germsheid (905) reported smoke showing from the A/B Corner. Upon further investigation, crews discovered heavy fire on the outside of the building, extending inside. Battalion Chief Rich Thomas (9201) arrived at this time and assumed Command.
The crew from Engine 923 stretched a 1 3/4" line and knocked down the fire. The crew from Rescue 938 assisted the remaining crew from 923 in raising a 24' ground ladder to the roof to check for extension with overhaul. Quint 946 arrived and laddered the roof on the A/D corner, and their crew was detailed to the roof. Crews made quick work of the fire and it was placed under control around the 15 minute mark.
Deptford Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office is still investigating.
